PHOENIX — Mauro Veliz, 31, of Heron, Calif., was sentenced to eight years in federal prison Wednesday, after he pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit sex trafficking of a minor for transporting a 15-year-old girl for the purpose of having sex with him.
Veliz conspired with others to have the victim transported from Arizona to California between April 23 and May 5, 2017. He knew at the time that the victim was a minor.
Veliz used Facebook to arrange his trafficking of the victim, said a release by the U.S. Attorney’s Office, District of Arizona.
Veliz was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Diane J. Humetewa. His incarceration will be followed by a life term of supervised release and he will be required to register as a sex offender.
