College Republicans United at Arizona State (CRU) held a tabling event on campus Friday to encourage their fellow students to report illegal immigrants at the University to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) for deportation.

As reported by AZCentral, the event went forward as planned with two members of CRU peacefully tabling with some 700 protestors marching around them and chanting in opposition led by Aliento, a pro-illegal immigration activist nonprofit founded by George Soros funded activist Reyna Montoya.

Montoya was recipient of $132,200 in seed-money from  George Soros’ Open Society Institute in 2016-18 “to organize people directly affected by the immigration detention system to generate narratives that emphasize the humanity of those in detention and to create policy recommendations for reform,” as previously reported by The Arizona Daily Independent.

In a series of posts to X.com on Wednesday, the group announced their intentions for the event stating, “We will be tabling on campus asking fellow students to report their criminal classmates to ICE for deportation. If you can’t wait until Friday and need to make a report RIGHT NOW, please do so at  https://ice.gov/webform/ice-tip-form

The student group continued in a thread explaining, “At a rate of 7,000 deportations per day, it would take four years to remove just the ten million who entered under Biden. So far, Trump’s administration is averaging only about 1,000 per day—far below what’s needed. However, mass deportation isn’t unprecedented; Eisenhower oversaw the removal of 1.5 million in a single year. There are also many DACA recipients who should be sent back.”

The Arizona Latino Legislative Caucus, an exclusively Democrat body, issued a press release Thursday responding to the event with condemnation.

In Thursday’s release, the Caucus, which counts zero of the Arizona Legislature’s six Republican Latinos as members, offered a harsh condemnation of the CRU with statements from co-chairs Senator Catherine Miranda and Representative Lydia Hernandez.

Miranda said, “I fully condemn the College Republicans United at Arizona State for their planned action encouraging the reporting of other students to ICE for deportation. For many young adults, college is the first place that they will interact with people outside of their own culture. Colleges are supposed to be environments where individuals can learn not just from their classes, but from their classmates. They are supposed to be a place that builds an environment for students to be able to gain new experiences.”

She continued, claiming, “The event goes against ASU’s commitment to ethnic, intellectual, socioeconomic and cultural inclusion. I have had brief communication with ASU President Michael Crow and have high hopes that he will join myself, and multiple others. In condemning this event and stopping it from happening on the university’s campus.“

Co-chair Hernandez added, “As Latino legislators in the state of Arizona, it is absolutely imperative that we take proactive measures to ensure the safety of students on school campuses We are asking universities to do the same. In the wake of the current political climate in our state in and across the nation, educational institutions must be safe zones and free of intimidation and endangerment. Allowing this kind of event will create a climate of fear and division for the university’s student population, especially students of color and Dreamers. who are being specifically targeted I ask the university to take the students’ safety as seriously as I do by condemning this group’s actions and stopping the event.”

Responding to accusations from Arizona State Senator Analise Ortiz (D-LD24) that the event “clearly violates code of conduct,” CRU responded via X.com, “It’s a civic responsibility to report crimes to law enforcement.”

Attorney General Kris Mayes slammed the event writing in a post to X, “This is abhorrent behavior by this extreme right group at ASU. Every student should be able to feel safe on campus. It’s appalling to see this division and hatred in our community. Dreamers in Arizona, know that I will never stop fighting to protect you.”

CRU responded by correcting her and 12News’ Brahm Resnick writing, “According to USCIS—54,000 illegal aliens with criminal records were approved for DACA 17,000 had multiple criminal arrests 8,000 were arrested AGAIN after having received benefits.” They addressed the AG specifically quipping, “We’re doing your job for you. It’s a civic duty to report crime to law enforcement. You’re nothing but a tool for the cartel.”

In a statement issued Thursday, CRU wrote, “Reporting crimes is not only a civic duty but also a fundamental for maintaining public safety and the rule of law. Law agencies rely on the public to effectively address unlawful activities, and providing information through legal channels is an essential part of that process.” The group later added with a link to the ICE tip form, “No one can stop us from posting this around campus.”

  1. “Reporting” and “informing” viscerally gives me the yucks. I’m not saying they are wrong, but there’s a right way to get illegals out of the country and there’s a wrong way to recruit for the Democrats. I don’t have a solution for the former, but I know the latter when I see it.

Also, “Dreamers” being victims of circumstance through no fault of their own, I’m disposed to show them more compassion to a point, but when they start asserting they ‘have rights’, they can pound sand, too; I am disinclined to suffer the arrogant and entitled.

  2. Attorney General Mayes once again shows her ignorance about Constitutional Law. The College Republicans were exercising their RIGHTS under the First amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

AG Mayes is a perfect example why DEI hires were promoted, not because of their Merit, but for their gender.

Maybe a Janitor at the AG’s Office can school AG Mayes about U.S. Civil Rights.

  3. Soros concerned about the humanity of those illegals imprisoned… the same guy who supported the Nazis in Hungary during WWII and then the Commies in Hungary afterwards. Oh…… the humanity…

    • Soros was a 13 year old Hungarian Jewish kid when the nazis invaded his country of Hungary. You are an idiot.

      • soros has made some improvements in the causes and concerns he has since? Whats your point Coyote – Soros is a good guy? You like the issues he’s supporting – his politic and pursuits?

        • Funny, Soros is a deconstructionist. Been a scumbag since WWII turning in his fellow Jews to the Nazis.

  4. I commend the Republican students who are brave enough to fight this horrible crime! Entitlement by illegal aliens has to stop! My new heroes!

  5. 700 useful idiots try to intimidate truth telling students and create a narrative of injustice. The real injustice is State and Federal funds allocated for educating Americans and legal International students is being misused by AZ schools. Americans are over being intimidated and indoctrinated into “open society” malarkey.

  6. Some of the students don’t understand because, in their eyes, it means nothing to be an American anymore. These people and students view themselves as an iteration of “American,” someone with dual allegiance/citizenship and affinity to an ethnic group. An American, however, understands that America is not a dumping ground nor an economic opportunity zone and that no one has a right to come here. But these students or other people epitomize the problem of a country that increasingly lacks a national identity because of mass immigration without any requirements for assimilation. Instead, their allegiance is based on their ethnic background or country of origin. This kind of thinking is dangerous to the future of our Republic. America’s founders understood that a nation is a sacred place bound together by commonality, a shared language, and culture. Radical open border policies have put Americans in direct line of danger, because foreigners don’t care about preserving American sovereignty or protecting the American people. The students, like so many on the left, simply care about defending their self-identified ethnic group. Such a belief is a recipe for disaster and a guaranteed way to dismantle America.

    • I’ve attended a number of nationalization ceremonies – all participants becoming American’s swear their allegiance to the nation – all are educated and tested in their knowledge of American ‘requirements’ of laws – responsibility to nation – most I’d suggest know more than the average American on the street. You are correct – what’s been allowed is a disaster in the making. NYET! They are welcome to visit, should that be violated – we are welcome to export them on a ‘permanent basis’ don’t allow the door to hit you on he way out! Don’t come back.
