A Maricopa County judge has sentenced Matthew Segundo to life in prison and an additional 91.5 years for the repeated sexual abuse of three children.
According to the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office, in 2022, law enforcement was alerted after one victim told school officials of the abuse by Segundo. This led the authorities to speak with the victim’s younger sibling, who also disclosed repeated incidents of abuse. At the time, both victims lived in the same household as Segundo. During one of the forensic interviews, one of the victims shared that Segundo admitted to abusing a third child who had also previously lived with him.
At sentencing, one of the victims asked the judge to ensure Segundo would never be free to hurt a child again.
“If he gets out, he is at risk to do this to another child, to somebody else, and I just never want that,” the victim said.
Segundo was found guilty of the following offenses:
“This predator’s selfish actions have had a lasting impact on the lives of these children,” said Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell. “I am in awe of these children who were willing to tell what had happened to them. Courageous victims help us put abusers in prison where they belong.”
