Phoenix PD seeking Facebook friends

The Phoenix Police Department is looking for friends. It launched its Facebook page this week as another way to inform the community. Friends are cautioned not to report crimes or tips on the page.

The public can now view photos, learn about upcoming Phoenix Police-sponsored events and get information about safety programs offered by the department at facebook.com/phoenixazpolice.

“Social media has become a huge part of our society and many people use it to communicate their messages. It is important that the Phoenix Police utilize this communication tool to invite the community to be more involved and learn more about what the men and women of the police department do for the community,” said Phoenix Police Chief Daniel V. Garcia.

Chief Garcia cautions the public, however, not to report any kind of crime or provide any tips on the department’s Facebook page. Doing so could hinder an ongoing investigation or could possibly endanger people’s privacies.

The department’s Facebook page will be monitored daily from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
