Maricopa County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a 16 year old undocumented entrant on charges of conspiracy to transport narcotics. The vehicle he was driving south of Interstate 8 held over half a ton of marijuana worth between $750,000 and $1.35 million.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, ground units assisted by a sophisticated helicopter used by his deputies, spotted the tarped covered vehicle south of the I-8 in the Vekol valley the area is well known for drug and human trafficking activities.
“Since the beginning of this year, my deputies have come across over 12,000 pounds of marijuana and arrested nearly 100 illegal aliens in the Vekol Valley,” said Sheriff Joe Arpaio. “Just in the past several weeks deputies have arrested 28 illegal aliens and seized over 2 ½ tons of marijuana during several investigations. That’s a problem area and it’s about time for another crime suppression operation utilizing my Air Posse and other resources focusing on drug and human trafficking.”
