Tucson female found dead in dumpster identified

Tucson Police received a 911 call from a citizen reporting that someone had just put a human body in a trash dumpster in the 3400 block of East Monte Vista Drive on July 10. Deanna Barnum, age 49, of Tucson as the deceased victim .

An autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death, which is not yet known.

Officers responded to the 911 call within three minutes. Upon arrival, officers located Barnum’s body in a trash dumpster as reported. Barnum was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Homicide Detectives determined that a resident in the neighborhood witnessed the suspect putting a human body into a trash dumpster. The witness briefly pursued the suspect, but was unable to catch him and contacted police.

The witness described the suspect as an African-American male, wearing a white shirt. While investigating the incident, a male matching the description of the suspect was contacted near the scene. He was detained and interviewed. His role, if any, in this incident is still under investigation.
