The Save Our Vote campaign committee, in opposition to the Open Government/Open Elections initiative, will likely to file a lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of the measure, according to the Yellow Sheet. Maricopa County Attorney Bill Montgomery, who heads up the group, is preparing a legal challenge.
The challenge will be based on the constitutional single-subject requirement for legislation and initiatives.
Montgomery said the initiative “is fatally flawed” because it impacts voter registration, party primaries and Clean Elections statutes, reported the Yellow Sheet. According to Montgomery, “At last count, there are 51 statutes affected by this initiative.”
Montgomery says he is the “point man” for the opposition to the initiative.
