Yuma student assaults officer on campus

On Friday April 19, 2013 at 9:51 am, Yuma Police Officers responded to Yuma High School for an officer who was assaulted by a student while investigating a drug offense.

The officer, who is the assigned School Resource Officer for Yuma High School, was investigating a student who was identified as 19 yr old Omar McQueen for a drug offense. The student was brought into the Officers office and once he was advised that he was under arrest, he assaulted the officer. During the struggle, the officer called for assistance. Other officers arrived on scene and during the struggle, an officer used an electronic control device to restrain McQueen.

McQueen was taken into custody and later booked into the Yuma County Detention Center. He is being charged with Aggravated Assault on a police officer and in the original case that was being investigated, McQueen is being charged with Possession of Marijuana for sale in a drug free school zone.
