CBP arrests man smuggling meth worth $389,000

A 28-year-old male U.S. citizen residing in San Luis, Rio Colorado, Sonora, Mexico, was arrested Wednesday for attempting to smuggle more than 25 pounds of methamphetamine into the United States.

A routine X-ray inspection of the man’s vehichle confirmed an unknown anomaly within the front bumper which turned out to be 18 packages of crystal meth.

Customs and Border Protection officers referred Juan Antonio Ruiz-Espinoza for an inspection of his Oldsmobile sedan when he attempted to enter the United States. After a narcotics detection canine alerted to the presence of drugs in the vehicle, a routine X-ray inspection confirmed an unknown anomaly within the front bumper which turned out to be 18 packages of crystal meth.

The drugs and vehicle were seized. Ruiz was turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
