Peoria, IRS offers small business tax seminars

The City of Peoria, Economic Development Services Department and the Internal Revenue Service is offering two small business tax seminars, from 8 a.m. – 10 a.m., on Tuesday, June 11 and Thursday, June 13, in the Point of View conference room, 9875 N. 85 Ave., in Peoria.

The June 11 tax seminar will provide general information regarding small business taxes for either existing businesses or new businesses. Items to be covered are: record keeping; bookkeeping systems; accounting methods; start-up costs and assets – what to capitalize and what to expense; and different types of business organizations (sole proprietor/partnership/corporation/LLC) and more.

The June 13 tax seminar is for businesses that have employees or are planning to have employees. Items to be covered are: tax identification numbers for both federal and state purposes; payroll taxes; employee or independent contractor status; what items are considered to be compensation; and overall reporting requirements.

Pre-registration is required. Local Certified Public Accountant Emily Griffin will be the lead instructor. Please consider attending both sessions.
