Phoenix reduces fees for renovating existing buildings

phoenixSmall business owners renovating existing buildings for new uses can now apply for adaptive reuse project fee reductions for construction plan review and permit assistance.

According to Phoenix officials, the most sustainable building is a reused building. Up to $4,500 in fee incentives are available to projects that meet eligibility requirements:

• An independent structure permitted prior to the year 2000

• A change of occupancy or significant alteration to the character of the building

• A change that incorporates the entire building

• A building that is 25,000 square feet or less in size

Recent examples of adaptive reuse projects include Desert Song Yoga, 3232 N. 20th St. – trade association union hall to yoga studio; Capriotti’s, 6025 N. 16th St. – convenience store to sandwich shop; Federal Pizza, 5210 N. Central Ave. – office to restaurant; and Angels Trumpet Ale House, 810 N. Second St. – office to restaurant/pub.
