2014 Spring Training is just around the corner

peoria-basebalBelieve it or not, but the 2014 Spring Training is just around the corner. The opening game at the Peoria Sports Complex is on February 27 and features the Seattle Mariners taking on the San Diego Padres in the annual Charity Game benefiting the Peoria Diamond Club.

Tickets for all Spring Training games at Peoria Sports Complex will go on sale Saturday, January 4, 2014, at 9 a.m.

The final game of Spring Training at the complex is on March 28 with the Mariners playing a 7:05 p.m. game against the Colorado Rockies.

Entering its 21st Spring Training season, the complex will host a total of 29 home games.

“We are eager to welcome back our fans and hear the words ‘play ball!’,” said Chris Calcaterra, Sports Facilities Manager. “We have some exciting promotions planned for the season and, along with our two great teams, are committed to fostering a great fan experience at Peoria Sports Complex.”

The San Diego Padres’ home slate is highlighted by match-ups with National League West Division rivals, Arizona Diamondbacks, on March 4 and San Francisco Giants in a night game on March 20. The Seattle Mariners’ schedule features a Sunday afternoon contest against the Texas Rangers on March 9 and a night game versus the Chicago Cubs on March 12. All but seven home games are scheduled to start at 1:05 p.m. There are six night games with the first pitch scheduled at 7:05 p.m., and the March 26 game will begin at 12:05 p.m.

Seattle’s pitchers and catchers will report to Spring Training on Feb. 12 with their first workout the following day, and position players are due in Peoria on Feb. 17. San Diego’s pitchers and catchers will report on Feb. 13, followed by position players arriving on Feb. 18. Both clubs’ first full squad workouts are scheduled to begin the day after position players report. Practice fields will be open to the public beginning Thursday, Feb. 13 for the Mariners and Friday, Feb. 14 for the Padres, respectively.
