Southern Arizona’s Community Food Bank Holiday Challenge continues

The Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona’s Holiday Challenge will be presented this year by four local families. The Jim Click Family Foundation, Jim and Sandy Peebles, Barry and Janet Lang and the Chen/Chow family will participate in the dollar-for-dollar match up to $110,000, until December 31, 2013.

The community is asked to meet the challenge by going online to and making a donation. If someone does not have access to the internet, they may call (520) 882-3296 and donate to the challenge.

Last year, the Community Food Bank distributed over 27 million pounds of food, enough for over 63,000 meals each day. For every $1 donated, the Food Bank can distribute enough food for four meals.

At the end of the year, Arizona’s Charitable Tax Credit Law allows a dollar-for-dollar tax credit on contributions to the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona. New this year, it is not necessary to itemize your taxes to claim the credit. Taxpayers filing as a single person can receive a credit up to $200 or up to $400 if you file jointly. Donors have until Tuesday, December 31, 2013, to meet the requirements.
