Woman dies in Yuma residential fire

1.1-yuma-fireOn Monday, December 30, 2013, at approximately 10:34 a.m., the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 3500 block of West Lorenza Street in Somerton, AZ in reference to a residential fire. Upon arrival, deputies found a double wide manufactured home fully engulfed in flames.

Witnesses on scene told deputies that they assisted a male occupant out of the home, but they were unable to get Mrs. Rosalinda Ramirez, age 68, of Somerton, out due to the fire and heavy smoke.

Somerton/Cocopah Fire Department responded to the fire. With the assistance of Rural Metro Fire and the City of Yuma Fire Department, they were able to extinguish the fire. A short time later, Rural Metro Fire confirmed that Mrs. Ramirez was located inside the residence. The male was transported to Yuma Regional Medical Center for precautionary reasons.

The incident will be investigated to determine the cause of the fire.
