Yuma suspect shoots houses in 20th Avenue area

On February 3, 2014, at approximately 8:54 p.m., the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 900 block of south 20th Avenue in reference to shots fired. Upon arrival, deputies met with the victim, who stated he heard an unknown object strike his home. The victim came out of his home to investigate and saw a male subject standing out on the street. The victim confronted the suspect; during the confrontation the suspect fired multiple rounds at the victim. The victim was able to avoid being struck by the gunfire by going back inside his home.

The initial investigation revealed that the suspect fired numerous rounds at the home and victim.  Deputies recovered numerous 9mm shell casings at the scene. At that time, the victim was unable to provide a suspect or vehicle description.

On February 4, 2014, at approximately 8:49 a.m., the Sheriff’s Office responded to possible shots fired in the same area of the 900 block of south 20th Avenue in reference to shots fired. The reporting party advised that a dark color Ford Expedition or Excursion was seen in the area when the shots were heard.

Both cases remain under investigation. No injuries were reported.
