DiCiccio calls for Stanton to pass ethics reforms

gift-bribePhoenix City Councilman Sal DiCiccio has called on Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton to “stop the foot-dragging and pass ethics reforms promised to taxpayers.” According to DiCiccio, the Mayor made ethics reform a priority during his campaign and two years since taking office not a single reform has been enacted.

“Taxpayers were promised action would be taken by January 2014 and nothing has happened. The Mayor has completely dropped ethics reform for politicians. This was a promise made to the public and not having a single ordinance passed is foot-dragging on his part. It should not take this long to put a simple gift ban in place,” said Councilman DiCiccio.

The Council heard recommendations from the Ethics Task Force, chaired by former Maricopa County Attorney Rick Romley, in June of last year. According to DiCiccio, during that meeting, the Mayor and Council agreed that certain recommendations should be acted upon before the end of the 2013 calendar year.

The Mayor has not placed ethics reform on an agenda for eight months.
