In February 2014, the Tucson Police Department’s Internet Crimes Against Children Unit developed information that an adult male was utilizing a social networking website in an attempt to solicit women for sexual purposes. Detectives initiated an investigation after he solicited sex from an individual he believed to be an underage female. Detectives were able to identify the suspect as 46-year-old Edward Aheimer.
On March 5, 2014, Mr. Aheimer went to an eastside location to meet with the person that he believed was the juvenile female he had been communicating with on-line. The on-line conversations indicated that the meeting was for sexual purposes. Upon his arrival, Aheimer was taken into custody by Tucson Police Detectives and U.S. Marshals. A search warrant was obtained for Aheimer’s residence and vehicle. Items of evidentiary value pertaining to this case were located.
Aheimer was booked into the Pima County Jail for 1 count of Attempted Sexual Conduct with a Minor (a class 3 Felony) and 1 count of Luring a Minor for Sexual Exploitation (a class 4 Felony).
The Tucson Police Department urges parents to continually monitor their children’s social media accounts. Knowing and monitoring your child’s online friends, connections and conversation is crucial for their safety
