$300K in marijuana seized at Port of Lukeville

pot-seizedA Mexican national was arrested Saturday at the Port of Lukeville in connection with a failed drug-smuggling attempt.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers referred Jorge Alberto Sanchez-Ruiz, 22, of Sonoyta, Sonora, Mexico, for additional inspection of his Ford truck, during which officers located 29 bundles of marijuana weighing nearly 658 pounds.

The drugs, valued at an estimated $329,000, and vehicle were processed for seizure. Sanchez was referred to U.S. Immigration and Custom Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
