Procession for fallen Salt River police officer will travel Loop 101 today

cabreraThe funeral procession for fallen Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community Police Officer Jair Cabrera will make its way along a stretch of eastbound Loop 101 in Glendale and north Phoenix today, Friday, May 30.

Drivers in the area are asked to prepare for a closure of eastbound Loop 101 between 75th Avenue and Seventh Street, which is scheduled to be in place by 11 a.m. Friday, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation. Drivers are urged to consider adjusting travel plans between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. and to use alternate routes, including Bell Road.

At the conclusion of a service at Christ’s Church of the Valley, 7007 W. Happy Valley Road in Peoria, 67th Avenue is scheduled to be closed in both directions between Happy Valley Road and Loop 101 while the procession is approaching and entering eastbound Loop 101.

The procession will travel along the eastbound Loop 101 on-ramp at 67th Avenue. Eastbound Loop 101 will be closed between 75th Avenue and Seventh Street as the line of law enforcement and other vehicles makes its way to Phoenix Memorial Park, where officer Cabrera will be laid to rest. All I-17 ramps to east- and westbound Loop 101 will be closed, as will the eastbound Loop 101 on-ramps at Union Hills Drive and Bell Road and the east- and westbound off-ramps at 67th Avenue.

Sections of the closed freeway and entrance ramps will reopen as soon as possible after the procession has passed. The procession also will require a closure of the westbound Loop 101 frontage road at Seventh Street while the procession is approaching Phoenix Memorial Park. Drivers should also expect restrictions at the Loop 101/Seventh Street interchange and nearby on- and off-ramps.
