On Thursday, September 18, 2014, at approximately 10:36 p.m., the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area of Highway 95 and Avenue H in reference to a report of a two vehicle fatality collision.
The investigation at the scene revealed that a maroon 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan Taxi was traveling westbound in the number two lane of Highway 95. The Dodge Caravan slowed, yielding to an oncoming ambulance traveling eastbound in the number one lane of Highway 95. As a result, a maroon 1998 Kawasaki Cruiser Motorcycle, also traveling westbound on Highway 95 behind the Dodge Caravan, collided with the rear left corner of the Caravan.
The driver of the Dodge Caravan was Ms. Maria Barajas, 63, of San Luis, Arizona. Ms. Barajas was transported to the Yuma Regional Medical Center by San Luis Ambulance for non-life threatening injuries. She was later released.
The operator of the Kawasaki motorcycle was identified as Mr. Manuel Ramon Robles Martinez, 21, of Somerton Arizona. Mr. Robles Martinez was thrown from the motorcycle. He was pronounced deceased at the scene. The next of kin has been notified.
Alcohol does appear to be a contributing factor.
