Border Patrol stops impaired wrong way driver

A Tucson Station Border Patrol agent helped prevent a potential tragedy by stopping a wrong-way driver on I-19 earlier on Thursday.

At approximately 2:30 a.m., the agent was traveling on I-19 in his assigned government vehicle when he noticed a vehicle headed south in a northbound lane. The agent quickly contacted radio communications to request a response from the Department of Public Safety.

As a precaution, the agent activated his emergency lights; causing the driver to immediately pull over. A DPS officer arrived on the scene and determined the male driver was driving impaired. The DPS officer arrested the driver and had the vehicle towed.

Border Patrol agents often assist local, state, federal and tribal agencies in an effort to improve public safety.
