CBP Officers Seize Nearly $146K in Hard Drugs

HardDrugsCustoms and Border Protection officers arrested a Mexican national Feb. 23 in connection to a failed attempt to smuggle more than 23 pounds of heroin and methamphetamine through the Port of Nogales.CBP officers at the Port of Nogales seized 23 pounds of heroin and meth from within the vehicle’s rear doors.Seven pounds of heroin and 16 pounds of meth are seized by CBP officers at the DeConcini crossing on Monday, Feb. 23.

Officers and a CBP narcotics-detection canine at the Dennis DeConcini crossing searched a Ford truck belonging to Mauricio Ozuna-Mejia, 42, of Santa Cruz, Sonora, Mexico. During the search, officers removed nearly seven pounds of heroin, worth more than $97,000, and more than 16 pounds of meth, valued in excess of $49,000, from the vehicle’s rear doors.

Officers processed the vehicles and drugs for seizure, and referred Ozuna to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
