Avondale teens sought to participate in “Mayor Marie High School Art Contest”

The City of Avondale Municipal Art Committee is seeking participants in the ‘Mayor Marie High School Art Contest’, open to all high school age graduating seniors in Avondale who are planning on enrolling into college.

Artwork in the media of paintings, drawings, and mix media will be accepted. Scholarship prizes will be awarded ranging in the amounts of $50 – $2,000 to help further their college education. Deadline to submit is April 9, 2015.

“This is a great opportunity for the Avondale Municipal Art Committee to support and encourage talented youth in their creative and artistic endeavors,” said Councilmember Bryan Kilgore, who led the development of the program when he served as Chair of the Municipal Arts Committee. The committee voted to name the art contest in honor of former Avondale Mayor Marie Lopez Rogers.

Submitted artworks will be showcased at a special art show on April 23, 2015. Winning artwork may be featured on display in the Avondale Civic Center Library. For details please visit www.avondale.org/ArtContest, for more information call 623-333-2787 or email publicart@avondale.org
