Cochise County man gets prison for child abuse, assault

On Monday March 30, 2015 Cochise County Superior Court Judge Kelliher sentenced Steven Rothbauer, 22 years old, to serve 4.5 years in the Arizona Department of Corrections and upon release be on 10 years of Intensive Probation.

The sentence was the result of a Sheriff’s Office investigation in April of 2014 where Rothbauer was charged with multiple counts of Child Abuse, Aggravated Assault on a child, and Failure to Change his address as a sex offender.

Rothbauer, a Sierra Vista resident was was arrested in April 2014, after his girlfriend brought one child to a pediatrician in Sierra Vista, and it was discovered that he had a skull fracture. After the medical staff at the University Medical Center in Tucson discovered the boy had multiple injuries, they asked the mother to bring in the boy’s twin.

The mother told deputies that Rothbauer watched the twins occasionally. He had watched the children on the Saturday before his arrest.
