At 3:17 p.m., a Chevrolet Tahoe was eastbound in the No. #1 or No. 2 lane of Interstate 10 when the left rear tire tread separated. The driver lost control of the vehicle which crossed the median through the cable barriers before rolling over and coming to rest in the No. #1 westbound lane facing on coming traffic.
There were nine people riding in this vehicle. Five people were ejected. Two people, an adult male and female were deceased onscene. Two other adults were taken to the hospital with life threatening injuries. The driver has non life threatening injuries. Two small children were also in the vehicle, they were not in seat belts but had minor injuries. One of the deceased victims from this crash was struck by a westbound minivan. The driver remained onscene.
The Tahoe has Arizona plates. It’s not clear how many, if any, of the adults were wearing seat belts.
