Glendale Man Arrested For Trying To Burn Girlfriend, Child

On Monday, July 20, 2015, just before 5:30 a.m., the Glendale Police Department responded to a request by Glendale Fire to provide assistance at an apartment located at 10800 N. 60th Avenue. They had responded to a reported fire and called police due to the occupants arguing with each other.

Police contacted 22 year old Glendale resident Marcus Savage-Dewitt, his adult girlfriend and her small child. There were no injuries due to the fire.

Detectives noted that the fire appeared to have been purposefully set and that barriers had been put in place to keep the two victims from leaving the room where the fire had started. At first, Marcus claimed no knowledge of how the fire began inside of the apartment and provided police a statement of his whereabouts. Detectives conducted multiple follow-up interviews and collected evidence.

On August 10, 2015, based upon the follow-up interviews and the evidence collected, Marcus Savage-Dewitt was arrested and booked on two counts of attempted first-degree homicide and one count of arson.
