Body Identified As Cochise County Flash Flood Victim

On Saturday December 5, 2015 the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office was advised of a possible body discovered off of In Balance Ranch Road near Highway 82 in the Whetstone area.

Cochise County Search and Rescue responded to the location and recovered human remains that appeared to have been there for some time due to the decomposition. The remains were transported to the Pima County Medical Examiners office for the completion of an autopsy to determine cause of death and possible identity.

The medical examiner completed the autopsy and verbally advised that physical characteristics of Ms. Joan Buttner, who was reportedly washed away in a flash flood in High Knolls on September 19, 2015, was consistent with the body which was recovered.
The body was recovered over 20 miles from the High Knolls flash flood location.
