The main effects of a typical El Nino for the southwest U.S. occurs in the January through March time frame with above average rainfall. The current very strong El Nino appears to be following that plan as a series of wet storms will affect southern Arizona next week.
Multiple periods of potentially significant precipitation are expected next week with the first storm impacting the area Monday. Additional systems are likely about Wednesday and again later in the week. There is a good probability of exceeding our normal January rainfall in just a 4-6 day period next week.
Precipitation amount forecasts this far out in the future are difficult at best, but a series of wet storms is expected so please stay current on the latest forecasts and statements as this plays out.
