Two Vehicle Collision Results In 1st 2016 Tucson Fatality

On January 7, 2016 at approximately 10:20 p.m., Tucson Police responded to Aviation Parkway and East 22nd Street for a report of a two vehicle collision with serious injuries. Tucson Fire responded to the scene to assist.

After the initial assessment of the scene, Traffic investigators from the Tucson Police Department responded to continue the investigation. They were able to determine that a 2006 Hyundai SUV was westbound on Aviation Parkway, approaching the intersection of East 22nd Street on a green light. As the vehicle was entering the intersection, a 2001 Saturn made a left turn in front of the SUV, from eastbound Aviation Parkway.

The SUV collided with the passenger side of the Saturn. The passenger in the Saturn was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of that vehicle was transported to Banner University Medical Center with minor injuries.

The driver of the SUV was transported to the same hospital with serious, but non-life threatening injuries. His two passengers were also transported with minor injuries. Alcohol and speed do not appear to be factors in the collision.

The passenger who was pronounced deceased at the scene has been identified as 20-year-old Andrew Boyles. Next of kin has been notified.

  1. Fed-up,

You are absolutely right it is clearly time that we start a petition to the Arizona legislature for increased Back ground checks for auto registration and make the manufacturers responsible for any vehicular deaths.

  2. Has Tucson had a homicide in 2016? Can’t find any news on one.

If this is the case, then a vehicular fatality has just outpaced Tucson homicides. Where are all the calls for automobile control?
