This week, a jury convicted Gerald Rodriguez Duran of Kidnapping, Aggravated Assault, Armed Robbery and two counts of Sexual Assault.
On April 10, 2014, Duran walked up behind his victim, held a gun to her head, and forced her in a secluded area. Duran told her that if she made any noise he would kill her. Then, at gunpoint, Duran sexually assaulted her. Duran was linked to to assault by DNA analysis.
Duran is next scheduled for a hearing on March 7, 2016, where the State will attempt to prove an allegation of a prior conviction for a different sexual assault. If the prior conviction is proven, Duran will be facing a mandatory life sentence without the possibility of parole until 35 years in prison are served.
