Members from the Tucson Fire Department were on scene when officers arrived. The adult male pedestrian was pronounced deceased on scene.

Detectives from the Tucson Police Department Traffic Investigations Unit responded to the scene to continue the investigation. Witnesses advised the railroad crossing arms were down at the intersection, as a train was approaching. The male pedestrian was observed standing in the roadway crossing of North 7th Avenue and the railroad tracks, just north of East Toole Avenue. He was inside the downed crossing arms and stepped in front of the oncoming train. The conductor and engineer of the train immediately began using the emergency braking system.

Despite their efforts, the pedestrian was struck before the train could stop.
