Marines working with Border Patrol agents help nab dope smugglers In Yuma County

10 SMUGGLERS ARRESTED WHILE CARRYING 286 POUNDS OF MARIJUANA VALUED AT $143,000

YUMA  – Members of the United States Marine Corps were working with Yuma Sector Border Patrol agents when they spotted a group of illegal aliens who were trafficking bundles of marijuana in eastern Yuma County.

Wellton Station Border Patrol agents apprehended six Mexican nationals and four Honduran nationals Tuesday night as they attempted to smuggle bundles of marijuana through the desert east of Dateland, said a release from U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

The Marines, who were working in support of Border Patrol operations, were performing surveillance in the area when they first spotted the group. The Marines then directed the agents to the group so they could be apprehended.

The marijuana weighed about 286 pounds, with an estimated street value of more than $143,000. The 10 suspects will be charged with drug smuggling and immigration violations.
