Douglas Pans, Sanchez Praises Ducey Education Budget

Arizona Superintendent of Public Instruction Diane Douglas on Thursday complained that Governor Doug Ducey’s Fiscal Year 2018 budget proposal will render the Arizona Department of Education unable to issue payments to schools on July 1 or earlier if left unchanged. At the same time, Dr. H.T. Sanchez, superintendent of the Tucson Unified School District called Ducey’s budget “visionary.”

According to Douglas, the initial budget recommendation allocated zero dollars for the maintenance and support of Arizona Department of Education’s (ADE) information technology systems, including those responsible for determining school enrollment numbers and payments, which would cripple its ability to calculate and distribute funding.
