Border Patrol Agents, Man Exchange Gunfire At Tombstone Area Immigration Checkpoint

United States Border Patrol Agents were involved in a shooting incident on Wednesday, May 17, 2017, at approximately 4:00 p.m., north of Tombstone, Arizona that injured one person.

At approximately 3:34 p.m., a vehicle driving northbound on State Route 80, drove into the Immigration Checkpoint traffic barriers. The Immigration Checkpoint was closed at the time due to adverse wind conditions. The adult male driver then began shooting at agents. Agents returned fire and shot the suspect. The suspect was provided immediate medical attention and was flown via helicopter to a Tucson area hospital.

The FBI, CBP’s Office of Professional Responsibility, the Tombstone Marshall’s Office and the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office are involved in the investigation of the incident.
