Tucson Pedestrian Killed On East Broadway

On July 12, 2017, at approximately 8:30 p.m., Tucson Police officers and members of the Tucson Fire Department responded to the 6600 block of East Broadway Boulevard for a report of a serious injury collision involving a pedestrian, 57-year-old Jerome Vincent Smith.

Upon arrival, first responders located Mr. Smith in the roadway with obvious signs of trauma. Shortly after arriving on scene, Mr. Smith was sadly pronounced deceased.

Detectives were able to determine that a Silver 2006 Hyundai Elantra was westbound on E. Broadway Boulevard in the median lane. Moments after the vehicle passed N. Jessica Avenue, Mr. Smith stepped off the center median and into westbound traffic. The driver of the Elantra aggressively applied his brakes, but was unable to stop before striking Mr. Smith.

Mr. Smith was not in a crosswalk when he entered the roadway. The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. Detectives are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision. No citations have been issued at this time. Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to call 88-CRIME.
