Tucson Woman Charged In Fatal Collision, Aggravated DUI

On July 27, 2017, just before 2:00 p.m., Tucson Police officers and members from the Tucson Fire Department responded to a report of a serious injury collision at the intersection of S. Pantano Road and E. Stella Road. Upon arrival, officers located a blue 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe and a silver 2005 Toyota Matrix in the intersection.

The adult female driver of the Toyota was immediately transported to Banner University Medical Center with life threatening injuries. The adult female driver of the Hyundai was transported to the same hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Detectives with the Tucson Police Traffic Investigations Unit responded to continue the investigation. After speaking with witnesses and investigating evidence at the scene, detectives were able to determine that the Hyundai was traveling northbound on Pantano Road and failed to stop for the red traffic signal at Stella Road. As the Hyundai entered the intersection, it collided with the Toyota that was westbound on a green traffic signal. While investigating this incident, officers and detectives learned that the driver of the Hyundai had been involved in five different hit and run collisions (four in the city limits and one in the county) moments before causing this collision. There were no injuries in the other collisions.

The driver of the Hyundai was identified as 32-year-old Erin Elizabeth Eman. At the time of the collision, Eman showed signs and symptoms of impairment. As a result, a DUI investigation was conducted. Officers also discovered that Eman had a suspended driver’s license for previous DUI convictions. On July 29, 2017, Eman was released from the hospital and booked into the Pima County Jail on charges of Aggravated DUI, Aggravated Assault with a Dangerous Instrument, Aggravated Assault w/Serious Physical Injury, Felony Criminal Damage, Possession of Narcotic Drugs and 10 counts of Felony Endangerment.

On the evening of August 9, 2017, the driver of the Toyota sadly passed away from injuries sustained during the collision. She has been identified as 21-year-old Hannah Parkhurst. Next of kin has been notified.

Additional charges are pending.
