Arizona Civil War Monument Tarred And Feathered

Two Confederate monuments in Arizona have been vandalized this week. One monument was tarred and feathered.

On Thursday the Arizona Department of Public Safety began an investigation into the attack on the Jefferson Davis Highway memorial along State Route 80 outside Apache Junction. The monument near Gold Canyon was covered in tar and feathers.

A memorial to Arizona Confederate troops, located at the state Capitol was spray-painted.

Rep. Reginald Bolding, who has fought for the monuments to be removed, issued a statement of condemnation of the vandalism. “Vandalizing these monuments is not productive,” said Bolding. “This will not lead to the civil discourse and debate that we have been calling for. It is a short-term action that does not help the long-term goal of having these offensive monuments removed from state property.”
