Mesa Woman Dies In Officer Involved Shooting

Sabrina Garcia, age 34, of Mesa died as a result of an officer-involved shooting on Saturday night. Mesa Police responded to 1771 S. Extension for a report of a woman threatening suicide.

Officers were attempting to make contact Ms. Garcia when she ran from her apartment. Officers followed Ms. Garcia, who was holding a handgun.

Officers commanded Ms. Garcia to drop the gun but she refused. So officers fired bean bag rounds at her in an effort to disarm her. Ms. Garcia appeared to ignore the rounds, and moved toward the officers while continuing to hold the gun.

Officers claimed they felt threatened and fired their weapons at her.
