The City of Tempe is accepting applications through Oct. 30 for the position of City Judge of the Tempe Municipal Court.
This position is responsible for presiding over a variety of hearings, including criminal misdemeanor and traffic arraignments, juvenile alcohol, driving and curfew arraignments, criminal jury and non-jury trials, protective order hearings, pretrial conferences and motion hearings.
Qualified applicants must have a Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school and must be a member of the State Bar of Arizona in good standing for a minimum of five years. A minimum of five years’ increasingly responsible experience as a practicing attorney and experience in criminal law and trial practice is preferred. Preference will be given to candidates who have served as a judicial officer in a limited jurisdiction court.
The vacancy exists from the retirement of Judge Thomas Robinson on Sept. 28.
The Tempe Municipal Court has five judges and 33 staff, and is one of the busiest courts in Arizona. It includes a Mental Health Court, operates the East Valley Regional Veterans’ Court, and participates in the Maricopa County Regional Homeless Court.
