Cochise County Sheriff Warns Of Facebook Scam

The Cochise County Sheriff’s Office is warning the public about a Facebook scam that has recently surfaced. The Office says it has received several calls regarding a new scam via Facebook.

According to the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office, the callers report that they received a message on their account that appears to come from someone they know and who is on their friend list (but is not their friend), advising that they are being offered a grant in any amount up to $500,000.

The potential victim is advised to call a phone number if they are interested because they are eligible for the award. Once the potential victim calls the number, they are advised to go to Walmart and purchase gift cards or Moneypak cards to cover deliver, insurance, and tax fees for the grant.

One person lost $500.00 in this scam, according to the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office.
