McCain, Flake More Popular With Arizona Democrats Than Republicans

The news that senators John McCain and Jeff Flake are not popular with Arizona’s republicans comes as no surprise. However, according to the latest CBS News Battleground Tracker poll, the senators appear to be a tad more popular with democrats.

Given the abuse the two senators have heaped on conservatives, their favorability with progressives should come as no surprise either.

Just last week, Judicial Watch confirmed that McCain was behind the targeting of conservative groups by the IRS. The ADI reported that Judicial Watch “released newly obtained internal IRS documents, including material revealing that Sen. John McCain’s former staff director and chief counsel on the Senate Homeland Security Permanent Subcommittee, Henry Kerner, urged top IRS officials, including then-director of exempt organizations Lois Lerner, to “audit so many that it becomes financially ruinous.”

The CBS News Battleground Tracker poll found that 79 percent of President Trump’s supporters in Arizona also hold negative views of McCain.

“Retiring Republican Sen. Jeff Flake gets an unfavorable rating from more than half of the state’s voters,” reported MSN.com. “Here too, Republicans hold the most negative views. Democrats are more divided in their opinions of Flake than of McCain, but more than twice as many Democrats (35 percent) than Republicans (16 percent) rate Flake favorably.”

Over half of Arizona independents viewed McCain and Flake unfavorably while divided in their views of President Trump.

Flake opted to retire rather than seek re-election due to his plummeting poll numbers. He has used his waning time in office to take jabs at Trump on an almost daily basis.
