Chu Gets Light Sentence For Killing 20-Year Old In DUI Crash

After pleading guilty on April 2, 2018 Stanley Ray Chu was sentenced this week to 15.5 years in the Department of Corrections for Manslaughter, Aggravated Assault and Leaving the Scene of a Fatal Accident in connection to a DUI crash.

On January 18, 2016 police were called to a vehicle crash where Chu was believed to be speeding and struck the victim’s car pushing it onto the sidewalk and into a light pole and a tree. The victim, 20-year-old Chezray Young, suffered life threatening injuries and was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital. His passenger 18-year-old Felix Munoz suffered severe injuries.

Officers were told by witnesses that Chu, who had caused the crash was trying to leave. Officers identified Chu, who claimed he was not involved in the crash and was just walking around after visiting some bars.

Chu had a blood alcohol content of 0.149. While pending trial for this incident Chu was arrested for Aggravated DUI on November 21, 2017 with a blood alcohol content of 0.082 within two hours of driving.
