Previously Deported Child Sex Offender Arrested By Yuma Border Patrol Agents

On Monday night, Border Patrol agents out of the Yuma Sector arrested a previously deported Mexican national who had been convicted of a sex offense against a child. Agents arrested Jose Flores-Oviedo, and his brother during an immigration stop on Interstate 40.

Agents working along Interstate 40 near Needles, California, at approximately 10:15 p.m., stopped a westbound Nissan Altima occupied by the two brothers, ages 39 and 35, and both illegally present in the United States. Agents arrested the men and transported them to the Blythe Station for further processing.

During a records check, agents found that the passenger, Jose Flores-Oviedo, had multiple felony convictions to include a sex offense against a child (fondling) in 2002 in Sandusky, Ohio; as well as domestic violence out of Madera, California, in 2004. He was also convicted for assault with a deadly weapon, causing “Great Bodily Injury” to a firefighter in San Francisco in 2010, for which he spent four years in prison.

Flores stated that he and his brother, who currently resided in Madera, were travelling back to California after a weekend stay in Las Vegas. Both are being processed for removal proceedings.
