On Sunday night, Nogales Border Patrol agents arrested two teenage Nogales residents after finding two male Mexican nationals in the trunk of a sedan at the Intestate 19 Immigration Checkpoint.
An 18-year-old driver of a Saturn was referred for a secondary inspection after a canine alerted to an odor it is trained to detect. When agents opened the vehicle’s trunk, they discovered two men inside, ages 24 and 47.
Agents seized the vehicle and arrested the driver and his 17-year-old passenger, identified as U.S. citizens, for human smuggling.
The two Mexican nationals were processed for immigration violations.
