Sinema Ridiculed Arizonans As “Crazy” In 2011

Rep. Kyrsten Sinema is taking heat for comments she made about her fellow Arizonans. The most recent controversy surrounds a leaked video in which Sinema calls Arizonans “crazy” at a Texas Democrats event in 2011.

“Because for the past several years, people would watch what’s happening in Arizona and be like ‘Damn, those people are crazy,” Sinema told attendees of th Texas event. “Is it something about the water?’ No, the water’s fine. We swell from Colorado. There’s nothing wrong with the water. They’re just called Republicans. […] And I want to talk to you about some of the things that I think that you can do to stop your state from becoming Arizona. […] Because Arizona is the state of the five C’s. So cattle, copper, citrus, cotton, and climate. And those are the five things that our state historically made its money off of. But I would add a sixth C. It’s called crazy.”

“For someone touting herself as a native Arizonan on the campaign trail, Sinema’s lack of respect for those same voters she’s speaking to is appalling,” said RNC spokesperson Renae Eze. “Every day, voters see more cracks in Sinema’ carefully manicured façade. Come November, voters will pick the candidate that has always respected them, not just pretending to when she’s running for office.”

In the past, Sinema was chastised for calling conservatives “Neanderthals.” Sinema has claimed that stay-at-home mothers were “leeching off their husbands or boyfriends.”
