Gosar Urges DOJ To Investigate Source Of Caravans

Rep. Paul Gosar is looking to clear up the controversy that has swirled about the true nature of the multiple “caravans of Migrants heading to the U.S. demanding economic asylum.

Gosar, this week sent a letter addressed to Department of Justice (DOJ) Attorney General, Jeff Sessions urging the DOJ to investigate the circumstances surrounding the most recent mass migration effort and potential laws that may have been broken by American entities.

Additional cosigners include U.S. Representatives Andy Biggs, Rod Blum, Jeff Duncan, Bob Gibbs, Louie Gohmert, Andy Harris, M.D., Steve King, Ralph Norman, Scott Perry, Todd Rokita and Ted S. Yoho, D.V.M.

“For years our immigration laws have been exploited. Right now, thousands of Central American migrants are traveling thousands of miles to reach our border,” said Gosar. “The level of organization, logistics and coordination being depicted in reports of the most recent caravan raises serious concerns. I urge the Department of Justice to investigate the matter to determine the actors responsible for this invasion.”

Last week, the Department of Homeland Security issued a statement in response to some of the myths floated by mostly ideologues on the left. Those myths include statements that the thousands of caravan members are simply seeking a better life and do not have criminal or otherwise questionable backgrounds. Those statements are gross generalizations no one could make with any certainty.

In fact, according to DHS:

So far, there are over 270 individuals along the caravan route that have criminal histories, including known gang membership.

On October 29, the Mexican ambassador to the U.S. described some of the caravan members as “very violent:” “Unfortunately, some of the people in the caravan have been very violent against authority, even though they have offered the possibility of entering in compliance with immigration law and refugee status.”

On October 30, Mexico’s Interior Minister Navarrete Prida speaking on Radio Enfoque (Focus) 100.1 FM, confirmed that some criminal groups have infiltrated the caravan: “I have videos from Guatemala that show men dressed in identical clothing, sporting the same haircuts, handing out money to women to persuade them to move to the front of the caravan…We know, for a fact, that some members of the caravan threatened [Mexican] Migration Institute personnel and we have images showing many of them preparing Molotov cocktails.”
