A a 19-year-old Texas man, Edward Garcia, was arrested in connection with a crime spree in Sierra Vista. Sierra Vista Police arrested Garcia, who has an outstanding warrant from Texas for several recent robberies and other crimes committed in Sierra Vista, on Sunday.
Sierra Vista Police Department officers responded to the most recent incident on Thursday, November 15, at about 5:59 p.m. after receiving a report of a panic alarm activation due to an in progress armed robbery at Check Into Cash, located at 2101 E. Fry Blvd. Before officers arrived on scene, the suspect fled on foot with $1,260 in cash after threatening two employees. The employees described the suspect as a thin, young Hispanic male with tattoos and light skin, who was wearing a red baseball cap.
The description matched that of a theft suspect who stole two cell phones from the Sprint Store, located at 999 E. Fry blvd, on Tuesday, November 13, at about 2:14 p.m. The cell phones were valued at $1,000 each.
A third incident occurred on Wednesday, October 31, at about 5:59 p.m. when SVPD officers were dispatched to Kay Jewelers, located inside The Mall at Sierra Vista, for a report of a robbery. An employee reported a young, thin Hispanic male with light skin and tattoos forcibly grabbed a 10-karat gold rope chain from her hand while she was showing it to him. The suspect fled the mall on foot with the chain, which was valued at $4,100.
On Sunday, at about 11:59 a.m., in the 1800 block of E. Fry Blvd, SVPD Special Operations Bureau detectives came into contact with an individual matching the description from the previous incidents. They took 19-year-old Edward Garcia into custody without incident. Garcia is believed to have recently come to Sierra Vista from Texas.
Garcia was booked into the Cochise County Jail on the following felony charges: armed robbery, aggravated robbery, theft, robbery, trafficking in stolen property, and fugitive from justice, because he had an outstanding warrant from Burnett County Sheriff’s Office in Texas.
