After an embarrassing performance by the University of Arizona Wildcat football team in the Territorial Cup on Friday evening, Director of Athletics Dave Heeke announced on Saturday that Coach Kevin Sumlin has been relieved of his duties effective immediately.

Heeke said Defensive Coordinator Paul Rhoads will serve as the Interim Head Coach.

Sumlin is expected to receive $7.5 million as a buyout of his contract.

Sumlin was with the Wildcats for three years and built an abysmal overall record of 9-20. He came to the UofA after a stint as the head coach at Texas A&M and the University of Houston.
