WHISPERING RANCH — The Maricopa County Sheriff is seeking Israel Vargas-Alvarez, 40,  in connection with the shooting death of Jonathan Calderon Sunday in the small rural community northwest of Phoenix.

The sheriff’s office received a 911 call about 6:30 p.m. Sunday from a Whispering Ranch resident, who reported that a man had been shot on his property.

When deputies arrived, they found Calderon unresponsive, apparently as a result of several gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene, said a statement from the sheriff’s office.

Vargas-Alvarez is described as being about 5’07” and 160 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.

Attempts to locate Vargas-Alvarez by detectives have been unsuccessful.
