Bank Robbery Suspect Stabs Tucson Police Department K9

A Tucson man, Frank K. Garcia, is in custody after stabbing a Tucson Police Department K9 while trying to evade arrest.

According to the Tucson Police Department (TPD), on Wednesday at approximately 2:00 a.m., officers located Grant, an Armed Bank Robbery suspect, in the 4800 Block of East Pima St. TPD’s S.W.A.T. team, Neighborhood Crimes Unit and K9 team were assisting with the investigation and attempted to make contact with Garcia.

Garcia allegedly disregarded commands and fled from officers. The dog, Blitz, caught up with Garcia and by the time the officers arrived on the scene to detain him, they observed a homemade knife on the ground next to where he had been apprehended by Blitz. Blitz was bleeding heavily from the neck area and was treated by his handler and transported to VCA Valley Animal Hospital.

Garcia was taken into custody and booked into Pima County Jail on charges of Armed Robbery and Aggravated Assault on a Peace Officer.
